Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

A bit about the role

Bridgend Families First supports families with children and young people as part of the Families First Programme. Our aim is to ensure families are confident, nurturing, resilient and safe by helping them to develop the skills to enable this.

As a Children and Families Practitioner you will be working within our Parenting team in the Bridgend Families First service. You will be delivering a range of Parenting programmes, focusing on improving parenting skills and increasing parental understanding of their child's development and learning. You will support parents to achieve positive outcomes for the whole family and make sustainable changes.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

You'll be taking a ‘whole family approach', building effective relationships with families and delivering programmes up to 10 weeks, that are tailored for each family member, whilst valuing their needs.

  • Delivering short term parenting programmes face to face or via remote methods
  • Signposting to external agencies and local authorities, those that require additional support following the completion of the programmes
  • Travelling to the homes of parents to deliver 1:1 sessions
  • Liaising with schools regarding families that are currently under the programmes to assist in managing the needs of children and young people
  • Supporting the development of parent help support groups to address parenting issues identified through sessions.
  • Ensuring data is collected in line with service requirements i.e. completion of pre and post assessments of parents and fully completed registers/details in line with required recording systems.

Let's talk about you

  • Experience of working with parents and families and achieving positive outcomes for them.
  • Experience of supporting families to manage their children's behaviour by using bespoke and evidence based parenting programmes delivered on an individual and/or group basis.
  • Experience of multi-agency working especially regarding safeguarding procedures.
