Vulnerable children in the UK need your help

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

A bit about the role

Green Ark Childrens & Manor Street Children's Centre/Emerging Family Hub is open to the whole community on a regular basis. We work in partnership with other agencies such as health visitors, midwives, nurseries, and local schools.

This is a permanent role which will be integral to the Family Hub network and involve working in partnership with children, young people and families, as well as other organisations to help people achieve the best possible outcomes. You will work across Green Ark Emerging Family Hub & Manor Street Children's Centre, as well as the wider city area as needed.  We see the role incorporating some planned evening and/or weekend working.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

As Children's Services Assistant you will co-ordinate and direct the support to children, young people and families by agreeing and providing interventions, which may be specialised, enabling positive and agreed outcomes to be achieved, in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. You will make a difference by:

  • Providing a high-quality service to children, and their families by understanding their needs and delivering appropriate interventions.
  • Delivering to groups as well as working with families on a one-to-one basis.
  • Achieving the highest standards of safeguarding, whether through supporting the children and their families who come into contact with our service, or by appropriately reporting concerns about any child.
  • Working in partnership with other agencies to keep children at the centre of our work.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and families to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Listening to children, and families.

Let's talk about you.

Our job description for the Children's Services Assistant outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:

  • Level 2 qualification or above in Early Years/childcare working with Children, Young People and Families.
  • Experience of working in a health, early years or social care setting.
  • Experience of working with Children and young people (0-19 years) and supporting their families.
  • Experience of working as part of a team or as an individual to deliver a frontline service. Experience of preparing, organising, reviewing and delivering individual and or group work
  • Ability to keep children and young people as the focus of all work and ensure the child's feelings and wishes are represented in meetings and record keeping
  • Up-to-date experience and application of safeguarding principles and the ability to promote the welfare of the child.
