Residential Worker

Location: Haviland Way, Cambridge, CB4 2RA

Contract: Permanent, Full Time (average of 35 hours per week on a night basis which will include weekends and Bank Holidays.)

Hours : Nights 9.30pm to 7.30am

Salary: £22,500 per year

Haviland Way provides a home from home setting for children and young people aged 8 – 19 with learning disabilities, who may also have physical, complex health or behavioural needs in a comfortable and safe environment.  Our home has four bedrooms, a large communal sitting room and kitchen / dining area, along with a ball pool, sensory room, quiet rooms, computer room and large themed gardens for our young people to enjoy during their stay.

 

We encourage young people to participate in leisure and recreational activities in the local community, according to their preferences and needs, in order to develop their independence and social network. Our service provides the main carer with an opportunity to have a break whilst delivering a stimulating and enjoyable experience for the young person.

 

How will you make a difference?

  • By acting as a key worker to individuals and taking a lead with care planning management.
  • By providing emotional, social and practical support to young people who can display challenging emotional and social difficulties.
  • By ensuring that the views and needs of young people are heard and responded to by promoting communication and participation in activities.
  • By carrying out personal care and administering medication.
  • By leading and working on shifts and mentoring new members of staff.
  • By building and maintaining professional working relationships with carers and organisations such as schools, NHS and Social Services.

 

What will you need?

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or a willingness to undertake qualification within two years of being appointed.
  • Experience of working with disabled children, adults or elderly people (desirable).
  • Desire and passion to provide support to vulnerable young people.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide direction and feedback to staff.
  • Ability to communicate in an appropriate way, both verbally and in writing.
  • Confidence in using I.T applications and able to keep accurate records.
  • Good standard of literacy – GCSE English at C grade or above (or equivalent level).
  • Ability to work shifts including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
