Housing Support Worker (11075)

Salary:  £21,029.27 per annum

Location: Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire

Contract/Hours: Permanent / Full Time – 37 hours per week

Interviews are provisionally scheduled to take place on 7th December 2023

A bit about the role

East Dunbartonshire Canal Housing project is based in Kirkintilloch. The service offers short to medium term accommodation to young people aged 16-26 years. The aim of the service is to help young people to develop the skills to ensure a successful transition into their own tenancy in the future.

The service offers a range of practical skills including budgeting, good door keeping and key life skills. Alongside the practical element the service offers a nurturing environment for young people to increase their emotional well-being and experience a positive transition.

We're looking for a Housing Support Worker to come and join our fabulous, dedicated team.  Shifts are 7.45am – 3.45pm, 12.30pm – 8.30pm and Waking Nights are 8 - 8pm. We may require an occasional sleepover shift for which you are paid an additional allowance for.  We also welcome applications from those that would like to work nightshifts specifically. 

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Some key responsibilities for the Housing Support Worker role are;

  • Demonstrating a commitment to Action for Children's defining statement, ‘keeping the child at the centre', and to promote and incorporate Action for Children's Participation Standards as appropriate to your role.
  • Achieving the highest standards of safeguarding, whether through direct care provision or support activities to the children and young people who come into contact with our services, or by appropriately reporting concerns about any child or young person.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships and channels of communications with colleagues and with young people and families and where necessary encourage and promote involvement to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Working as a team and individually to provide a flexible responsive, high quality and person centred care to young people based on an assessment of need and risk to access to a range of stimulating and safe activities and experiences within and external to the service.

Let's talk about you

  • SVQ 2 in a relevant subject however we are open to experience as we will give you the option to work towards a qualification with us. 
  • Registered with SSSC or equivalent/ willing to work towards registration.
  • The service operates 24/7 therefore working a full rota system is essential.
  • Experienced in a social care setting and an understanding of the issues young adults experience who are homeless.
  • Experienced in safeguarding and an understanding of risk management plans.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues experienced by young people.
  • Ability to engage with young people and build positive relationships.
