Action for Children

Salary: Circa £22,500 per annum, pro rata which equates to £18,243

Contract/Hours: Part-time (working 30 hours a week) on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2023 – working hours are negotiable between Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm  

Location: Downpatrick

About the Role: 

The Ballymote Family Project provides Sure Start and Family Support services. We provide a range of services which include universal services, early intervention and targeted interventions. This includes improving outcomes for children who are neglected or abused, whose parents are separating, having difficulties in school, returning to live at home, young people who have a caring role, families whose tenancy is at risk and families at risk of breakdown. You'll need to be able to travel freely as a lot of your work will be conducted in the community.

Applications from males are particularly welcome as they are currently under-represented in our service.

As a Family Support Practitioner you'll be: 

  • Working with children, young people and their families around improving their anxiety and well-being.
  • Providing 1:1 therapeutic support at home, in school or at the service.
  • Liaising with parents, carers and other professionals, including Social Workers.
  • Updating and maintaining digital records.



What You'll Bring: 

Our job description for the Family Support Practitioner outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are: 

  • Diploma Level 3 qualification in Social Care, Psychology or Education.
  • Experience of working with children and families.
  • Experience of providing therapeutic support.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with children and young people, their carers and other professionals.
  • Access to a car with business insurance. The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
