Bucks Activity Project is part of the Action for Children Countywide Integrated Short Breaks Service, commissioned by Buckinghamshire Council and provides community short breaks to children and young people aged 0-19 with disabilities and additional learning needs across Buckinghamshire with over 250 children currently registered.


The service provides activities 7 days a week, although the role is for office daytime hours only, this means communication from the team will not always be face to face. Therefore patience, a sense of humour and a positive outlook are required attributes for this busy environment. Although the role is demanding the rewards are great too, with the organisation offering a good package of support by way of promoting self-development and well-being through our online learning and development platform, as well as the service delivering positive outcomes to children, young people and their families.   


The Role 

You will work as part of a team working with one other Business Support Officers and supporting Senior Business Support Officer, a Co-ordinator and a team of team leaders and support workers.

The successful candidate will need to be able to evidence an organised and flexible way of working and have a willingness to learn the evolving software that is supported in the organisation.

The role includes:


  • Providing data required by the senior business support officer for internal and external reporting: monthly, quarterly and year-end.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good IT knowledge, including basic Excel, email and Word as well as basic financial understanding.
  • Accurate record keeping of processes to keep the team informed of completed stages at any given time.
  • Provide day-to-day admin support to the service including reporting and monitoring repairs, ordering goods, booking agency, checking and processing agency and internal staff timesheets, processing and recording parent payments, quarterly parent mail-outs, track service expenditure, etc.

You will you need:

  • Business Administration S/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification or work experience.
  • Experience of using PCs on a business network running MS Windows and Office, along with email and internet and specific business applications i.e. finance.
  • Experience of providing a confidential, professional service and to work flexibly to meet the demands of the role.
  • To work within a team environment, demonstrating tact and diplomacy with other members of staff and where necessary to direct and guide. 
  • Effective communication written and oral to a range of different personnel.
  • To take responsibility for a project or task and deliver within agreed timescales.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn new processes and demonstrate good practice to others.
  • Proven track record in the use of IT packages to produce presentations and statistical data for the Department.
  • Proven track record of liaising with senior external stakeholders to co-ordinate key activities.

  • You will be providing a high standard of administrative tasks, supporting a team to provide an enabling environment and to build strong team and parent partnerships to enable all children's needs to be met.
  • You will provide a warm and welcome disposition being first point of contact to parents
  • Supporting the team by keeping children's records up-to-date.
